Alberta's Spring 2019 election will take place on April 16, 2019, and we want Calgarians to get involved and vote with their guts -- because if there's one thing we can all agree on it's donuts.

Here's how it works:

We're raising funds through GoFundMe and using the money to feed hungry voters during the upcoming Spring Election.

We will select five different early voting stations as Democracy Donuts locations and we'll visit one of them each day. Early voting runs April 9 through April 13, 2019.

Once you've voted, come find the Democracy Donuts team and get a free Hoopla donut. Donuts will be limited in quantity. The more money we raise, the more donuts we'll buy. A $20 donation buys 10 donuts (1 donut per voter.)

THANK YOU!
WITH  YOUR SUPPORT, WE'VE REACHED OUR $2,500 GOAL!
IF WE RECEIVE MORE DONATIONS, WE'LL  BUY MORE DONUTS!

FAQ

Who is behind Democracy Donuts?

Democracy Donuts is being organized Calgary-based voting- and donut-enthusiasts: Jeremy FokkensJason Krell, Mike Morrison and Emma Stevens

Democracy Donuts is not supported by any political group, and every voter is encouraged to ‘vote with their gut’ for the candidate and party of their choice. Think of it as an independent donut for an independent vote.

How much money are you trying to raise?

Our goal is to raise $2,500. This will cover the cost of donuts as well as administrative costs like this webpage, photography and promotion.

What if there are funds leftover?

Any funds leftover will be donated to CIVIX, a national non-profit organization dedicated to engaging youth in the democratic process through initiatives like Student Vote, a parallel election for K-12 students.

Where are the donuts coming from?

Donuts will be purchased from Hoopla Donuts! Hoopla has a delicious selection of donuts, including some vegan and gluten-free options. We'll have limited quantities of each!

Is this even allowed?

Yes. According to Elections Alberta, as long as the project is not affiliated with any political party and that the project isn't encouraging voters to vote for any particular party or candidate, it is allowed.

How do I register to vote?

It's really easy to register to vote online and only takes five minutes. Grab your driver's license or Alberta Identification Card and CLICK HERE

How do I find my polling station?

This year it will be easier than ever to vote, because Albertans will be able to vote at any polling station in the province.

Polling places are listed on the Elections Alberta web page.

How will I know where to find you during early voting?

Once the election is called and the polling stations are announced, we will select one location for each day of early voting. Follow us on Instagram or Twitter for updates!

How can I get  involved?

1. Donate! A $20 donation buys donuts for 10 voters.

2. Share! Post about Democracy Donuts on your social channels to encourage your friends and family to get involved.
